About the project:

Located in Phadamchen village, adjacent to Pangolakha Wildlife Sanctuary in Sikkim, the Open Interpretation Center serves as an educational trail around the village highlighting the sanctuary's biodiversity, with a focus on endangered species like the red panda and snow leopards. It is part of a larger protected ecosystem alongside Neora Valley National Park and Bhutan's Jigme Khesar Nature Reserve.

Situated on the historic Silk Route, Phadamchen offers scenic views and is a popular tourist stopover. The center promotes awareness of wildlife conservation, cultural heritage, and sustainable tourism practices. Through interactive exhibits and programs, it educates visitors on the importance of preserving biodiversity for future generations.

Sponsored by the SBI Foundation, the project is conceptualized by WWF-India and designed by Echostream.

Objective: To increase public awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and cultural heritage in Phadamchen and the Pangolakha Wildlife Sanctuary region by providing educational resources, promoting responsible tourism practices, and fostering sustainable development that protects endangered species like the red panda while preserving the area's natural and cultural integrity for future generations.

Project Scope:

  1. Panel Design: I designed a series of informational panels that highlighted key aspects of the region’s flora, fauna, and cultural significance.
  2. Documentation: I documented the architecture and artifacts of one of the oldest houses in the village, a historic structure that has stood since the days of the ancient Silk Route. This documentation served to create a visual narrative for the illustrations on the panels..
  3. Video Production: I produced videos for interviews with local resource persons, capturing insights into the conservation efforts and cultural narratives of the region.
  4. Wayfinding System: I designed a comprehensive wayfinding system to guide visitors through the key points of the interpretation center.
  5. Coordination and Execution: Finally, I coordinated the printing and installation of the designed elements, ensuring smooth execution
